Meet Buddy

This big and lovable boy was released to rescue because his original family, who had him since being a puppy, was not able to move him with them overseas. He adjusted to his foster home quickly and made friends with the dogs here. His gaze makes you melt. He recently turned 10 years old. 

Buddy came with some challenges - he walks slowly due to hip displasia which had never been diagnosed or treated. Surgery at this point is not possible, however our vet has placed him on Carprofen and Dasuquin which have helped quite a bit to decrease his pain and increase his ambulation.  He is able to go up and down the 4 stairs from the yard to the house. A home with few steps would be best for him. 

Our vet also discovered a heart murmur. He had an echocardiogram and has mitral valve regurgitation. He is now taking the heart med Vetmedin twice a day. He has responded well and has more energy. He will require follow up echos. At this time the left side of his heart is enlarged, however his lungs and breathing are normal. 

He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He was obese weighing 37 when he was rescued. He has been eating a prescription diet food for the last 4 months and now weighs 27 lbs. This is a good weight for Buddy who is a larger Cavalier. This has also helped his heart and hips considerably. 

He is house trained. Sometimes he has to be encouraged to wake up and go outside. With a gentle touch to his collar and a pat or two and he will cooperate. He takes long naps and sleeps happily on the big bed or in his crate. He loves to sleep in! He rarely barks. He walks nice on a leash. Buddy takes life as it comes and wags his tail to let you know he’s happy and content. He loves to get up on the couch, with a little help, and watch TV and keep you company.
