Zoe - MA

May 14, 2011

Zoe is an 8 year-old spayed female who was surrendered to Lucky Star by her family who no longer had time for her. Her chronological age is 8 but she appears and acts to be about 5 year old. She came into our care on prescription anti-anxiety medication for separation anxiety but she hasn't had them since she arrived . She is just fine since she's been in foster care, receiving attention and hanging out with other dogs. She just likes to be included with the activitiies, follow her foster mom and know that she is safe and loved. Overall, she is a quiet girl, unless she is alerting her foster mom of someone walking by the house.

She has a history of pancreatitis with occasional flair-ups throughout her life that seem to be associated with a combination of stress and diet. Regular maintenance includes 1/2 Pepcid tablet with meals and Prozyme (a powdered supplement for the condition). Since in foster care, she has been receiving a home-cooked diet of scrambled egg whites, low-fat cottage cheese, boiled chicken, rice or oatmeal. Of course, she just loves it as well as the special attention she now gets. Her adopter needs to be aware of some dietary restrictions and care for a flair up of pancreatitis. Diet typically is a low fat, consistent diet and limiting treats. In addition, she appears to be quite hard of hearing, though not completely deaf. Her teeth were in need of a major cleaning and several extractions and now are sparkling! She has a Grade 3 murmur that does not require medication at this time but should be checked annually by her adopter as should every Cavalier.

Zoe loves to be on her foster mom's lap to watch TV and she also likes to sleep on the big bed. She is fine just hanging out with many other Cavaliers in her foster home. Being surrendered by your family is difficult for any dog, especially an older one. It's confusing to be uprooted from what you have known to be a safe home. Zoe needs a home where she will have human company most of the time, be included and be loved unconditionally to reassure her that she will not be displaced again. She's a lovely girl and deserves a FOREVER home, no matter what.

Zoe is being fostered in MA. Please complete an adoption application first, then contact luckystarmary@gmail.com or mary401339@aol.com of your interest, stating your location in that e-mail.
